Elective Abortion

Elective abortion is the intentional use of an instrument, drug, other substance or device, at the request of the patient, to terminate a woman's pregnancy for purposes not related to maternal danger, removal of a dead fetus, or a determination by the attending physician that the fetus will be nonviable outside the womb or may require extraordinary medical services for medical maintenance (e.g., ventilator, long term parenteral or tube feedings, multiple operations with low outcome expectations).
