Roy McDonald founds Tennessee Hospital Service Association; serves as company's first CEO

BlueShield program forms

Community enrollment plan makes health care available to public

Major medical coverage becomes available

Jim Hill appointed as CEO

Begins administering Medicare

Name officially changes to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee

Becomes a TennCare Managed Care Organization, now operating as BlueCare Tennessee, to serve the state’s Medicaid population

Opens new LEED Gold-certified corporate campus on Cameron Hill

Becomes first in the industry to implement enterprise-wide data encryption
